Start
Point
Start point marks the southern boundary of Start Bay and has
been the site of many shipwrecks in the past. This can be a
wild place on a windy day and the sea at these times is quite
spectacular to see, with huge waves breaking over the point.
A lighthouse was first built here in 1836 and was only recently
fully automated, as are all others round our coastline, yet it is
still possible to walk down to the point, and imagine the many
hours that the old lighthouse keepers must have spent keeping
watch on passing ships.
