A panoramic view of Torcross and Slapton Sands

From the hill above Torcross there is a wonderful view of Start Bay, showing the unique combination of fresh water lake and the sea, separated by only a narrow shingle bank formed after the last ice age.   The oldest part of the village is mainly on the sea front where it has evolved from the old fisherman's cottages, the houses seen in the foreground have mainly developed since the end of the last century.

The South Hams area of Devon enjoys one of the mildest climates in the country, making it an ideal area for those late autumn and winter breaks. Slapton Sands seen here is nearly 3 miles long and is a haven for sun seekers during the summer months, but there are many interesting walks to be had, even in the winter time.

Torcross is at the southern end of Slapton Sands, and is only a matter of a few feet from the beach. Besides the obvious activities of sunbathing and swimming other pastimes include sailing, fishing and walking, not to mention the welcome you will receive in the local hostelries.
